Sales and Marketing Firm Participates in Nashville Neighborhood Planning

Choice Neighborhoods in Nashville continues to transform the look of the city.

In July 2016, Nashville was one of 10 cities awarded a Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). MDHA served as the lead grantee, with Martha O’Bryan Center as the co-grantee. The $500,000 grant funds a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plan for the Napier Place, Sudekum Apartments and the surrounding area.

In the development of Choice Neighborhoods, HUD has focused on directing resources into four core goals, known as work groups:

People: Support positive outcomes for families who live in the target development(s) and the surrounding neighborhood, particularly outcomes related to residents’ health, safety, employment, mobility, and education;

Education: Support the on-going development of and access to comprehensive educational initiatives that impact all families that reside within the target neighborhood, with focus ranging from early childhood education and grade school programming, to high schools, colleges and adult education.

Housing: Transform distressed public and assisted housing into energy efficient, mixed-income housing that is physically and financially viable over the long-term;

Neighborhoods: Transform neighborhoods of poverty into viable, mixed-income neighborhoods with access to well-functioning services, high quality public schools and education programs, high quality early learning programs and services, public assets, public transportation, and improved access to jobs.

It was during the assembly of the four work groups, Hylton Elite Marketing Agency decided to participate and direct it’s resources, and advice, towards the goals of the People’s work group. “As a business we have to stay engaged, we have to build relationships, and we have to continue to be an influential leader in the communities we serve,” said Hylton Elite CEO Danavan Hylton. Hylton continued, “It’s exciting to help develop a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization strategy. I’m getting to know key players, and great local residents. I invite all neighborhood residents to participate.”

This revitalization strategy, also known as the Transitional Plan, will become the guiding document for the revitalization of the public housing units, while simultaneously directing the transformation of the surrounding neighborhood.

MDHA is working with Napier Place and Sudekum Apartments residents, public and private agencies, community and philanthropic organizations, community members and residents from the surrounding area and stakeholder groups to gather and leverage resources needed to support the strategic and financial sustainability of the plan.

Helping to Recruit Volunteers in North Nashville

Agencies such as Metro Parks and Recreation, Bethlehem Center of Nashville, and Matthew Walker met with Hands on Nashville to discuss recruiting strategies for the North Nashville area.

Hands on Nashville, Davidson County’s largest volunteer recruiting agency, is leading the charge in planning a volunteer fair to inspire more North Nashville residents to give more of their time to local community groups and agencies in the North Nashville area.

The rough draft of the volunteer fair will consist of 15 agencies, organizations, and schools joining together at McGruder Family Resource center on Saturday, May 20th from 10a to 1p to introduce their agency to the community in hopes of recruiting a new volunteer. The fair will be recruiting volunteers as young as 12 years old.

Hylton Elite has been representing it’s major client in this volunteer project, staffing leader Express Employment Professionals’ North Nashville and Downtown office, by engaging Hands on Nashville as the staffing company looks to maximize employment for residents located in the North Nashville area.

“We’re looking to stay connected, and work alongside the best”, said Hylton Elite Marketing Agency CEO, Danavan Hylton. Hylton continues, “Hylton Elite stimulates growth in the Greater North Nashville area by bridging gaps, and connecting dots. Helping to connect Hands on Nashville to a hidden community like North Nashville only gives us more credibility as a business in what we do.”

Local residents that volunteer their time to local community groups strengthen their community. By volunteering, residents learn new skills, and meet new people. Volunteering can be a fun, and challenging, experience that will help you gain more confidence; especially as you begin to realize the impact, and difference you’re making in your community.

In an effort to address needs for Sudekum and Napier residents, Hylton Elite Marketing Agency is not only representing respected employment agency, Express Employment Professionals’ Downtown and Nashville North office (www.ExpressNorthNashville.com) at the Envision  Napier and Sudekum ‘People’ Working Group, but is bringing a lot of its own resources and expertise to the table.

Hylton Elite Marketing Agency is an influential marketing communications firm that provides talent management, business development, and corporate social responsibility solutions to businesses.

“The message for the work group is ‘coming together is a start, staying together is progress'”, explained Hylton Elite’s CEO, Danavan Hylton, “that message is what motivated me to participate in helping residents in the community develop work skills, and prepare residents for change. I’m introducing the idea and lifestyle of mixed used housing to help ensure a pleasant process for current residents during this transformation.”

The’People’ Working Group, for Napier and Sudekum wants to make sure the community receives a positive impact through an open dialogue to captivate the essence of the Napier/Sudekum community.

Work Groups within Envision Napier and Sudekum are vital towards effective and successful planning, and brings understanding to the transformational plan. The ‘People’ Working Group is tasked with developing a People Work Group plan, providing a resident needs assessment, developing partnerships and relationships, addressing employment training, and addressing education.
With Napier and Sudekum residents completing the housing application process, the People Working Group is working to distribute surveys to residents to make sure all general questions, concerns, and needs are addressed.

Danavan continues, “my general concern I want to address is, as the economic growth increases for low-income community residents, where should residents re-locate to, and if residents decide not to stay in the Napier/Sudekum region for any reason, where are the best developing communities either within, or outside middle Tennessee, that is looking to hire someone with their work skills?”

Envision Napier and Sudekum is not only planning transformation for the immediate area, but the redevelopment project includes transformation to the Nolensville Road, and Hermitage Avenue areas.

Local residents are encouraged to attend the quarterly Envision Napier/Sudekum Townhall meetings, and participate in a number of engagement activities that are hosted monthly to stay up-to-date with the transformation process. Mixed-use generally refers to a deliberate mix of housing, civic uses, and commercial uses, including retail, restaurants, and offices.

“You’re preparing residents to experience market rate housing, workforce development housing, and low income housing living and working together in that community”, said Danavan, “I’m glad to participate in the resident needs assessment, and being a part of the decision-making process. It’s always great to be the first to know of changes that may affect my community, and the community of my network.”

Fundraising Dinner for President Dr. Joyce Banda a Success

Banda 210The fundraising dinner for the Joyce Banda Foundation organized through the African Union, African Diaspora Health Initiative (AU-ADHI) and African Legacies Foundation was a success. The Joyce Banda Foundation is a primary and secondary school in Malawi founded by Joyce Banda in 1997. Its primary focus is education and sustainable development. In response to the needs of the rural community, it grew into a multi-faceted organisation. The total funds raised are still being calculated, but the fundraising dinner included a great comedy act, outstanding food, live music, and a silent auction.

The dinner’s guest speakers included Davisdon County District 19 Councilwoman Erica Gilmore, Chair of the AU-ADHI, Dr. Arikana Chihombori, African Legacies Foundation founder, Kwame Ahima, and founder and current president and CEO of Nashville International Center for Empowerment, Dr. Gatluak Thach. While in Nashville, President Dr. Joyce Banda had the opportunity to visit Meharry Medical College where she spoke to future medical professionals, meet with the new CEO of Metro General Hospital, and had plans to meet with the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce’s International Business Office. Outstanding photos were taken by Matt Hankins during the dinner. “I enjoyed myself” explained Malikah Hylton, Managing Partner of Hoshana Management Group, “and I believe the overall mission of awareness creation and fundraising was accomplished.” If you are open to donating to the development of the Joyce Banda Foundation, visit http://www.joycebandafoundation.com/Banda 294

Danavan Hylton Serves as a Guest Speaker – “Are You A Professional?”

wp_20150602_18_26_28_pro“The Truth is incontrovertible is what I always say,” said guest speaker and HMG President Danavan Hylton as he encouraged National College of Business and Technology’s Madison campus Business Club to continue to strive for excellence as a professional. “When your back is against the wall, and you realize enough is enough, and you are ready to act to improve your life and the lives of your loved ones, it’s a powerful moment,” comments Danavan Hylton. Every student enrolled in the business club is working to improve their life and serve as a continued compliment to the growing trends of Davidson County and Nashville.

June second was the grand opening for the 2015 business club for the college, and Danavan Hylton was invited to serve as the 2015 guest speaker during the historical moment. Danavan’s theme was, “Are You a Professional?” in which the discussion was founded on the meaning of professionalism both in one’s career and personal life as the two are delicately intertwined. Danavan also explained the steps necessary to improve one’s professionalism both while one is employed and while one is in search of employment. The presentation was based around a question and answer platform as students not only listened to Danavan, but also presented Danavan valuable insights as well. Areas such as the importance of networking even when you are not looking for a job, building professional relationships in and out of your field, and giving back to the communities in which we live and work were electrifying and left everyone in the room motivated to lead by example. Danavan also talked about his personal trials and tribulations in both his personal life and career to tangibly give listeners evidence that all things are possible through Faith and Works.

“I am Truly grateful for where I am in my life”, says Danavan, “just forgive me where I fall short as I usually learn the valuable lessons of life the first time around.” The business club his headed by Tracy Ross, Director of the Business Management career training program for the college. The club’s mission is to bridge the gap and working relationship between the college’s students and the professional world to ensure students are on track to receiving the necessary hands on training to land a position upon graduation. “Danavan is a great community engagement resource for the students,” says Tracy Ross, “and Danavan serves as a professional role model for individuals to follow. I am glad Danavan was able to speak to the students.” NCBt madison

Danavan plans to do everything he can to develop the club by introducing the club to thriving businesses in the Madison, north Nashville, and downtown markets through strategic partnerships and externship opportunities.
